Partial Dentures can be used as a way to replace one or more missing teeth with a device that is removable by the patient. These often have metal frames and clasps (we can now do tooth colored clasps in some cases) and "clip" onto any remaining teeth to hold in place. Partial dentures require removal and cleaning daily by the patient.
Complete Dentures are used to replace all of the missing teeth in an arch (upper or lower). A complete denture can be held in by suction due to its intimate fit with the gums or sometimes can be held in by dental implants. It is typical to have a lower denture held in by at least two implants. This type of denture is often referred to as an implant overdenture. Complete dentures must also be removed and cleaned daily by the patient.
